Terms of Service
Last updated: 20 August 2026
These terms cover your use of BillSplitor at billsplitor.top. They are written to be read rather than skimmed past, because a few of them — how bill links work, and what the app does not do — genuinely affect how you should use it. By uploading a receipt or opening a bill link you accept them.
What the service is
BillSplitor scans a photograph of a restaurant receipt, splits it among a group by item, and shares the result through a link. It is provided free of charge and "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Receipt scanning is automated and it will sometimes be wrong: faded thermal paper, handwritten additions, unusual layouts and dish names in dialect all cause misreads. The scanned list is a draft for you to correct, not a verified record. Always check the items and the totals against the paper receipt before you share the link or ask anyone to pay.
It is not a payment service
BillSplitor calculates who owes what. It does not hold, transfer, escrow or process money, and it is not a party to any payment between you and anyone else. Payment details you display — an account number or a QR code — are shown to the people holding your bill link exactly as you entered them. Check them before you share, because a wrong number sends the money somewhere else and there is nothing we can do about it.
Amounts shown are the output of a calculation from figures on a receipt. They are not invoices, receipts or tax documents, and nothing on this site is tax, accounting or legal advice. The guides explain how Malaysian service charge and service tax normally work, but for anything with real consequences ask a registered professional.
Availability
The service runs on a best-effort basis with no uptime commitment. It may be slow, unavailable, or interrupted for maintenance without notice, and features may be changed or withdrawn. Receipt scanning depends on third-party providers and can fail independently of the rest of the app.
Do not use BillSplitor as your only record of anything that matters. Keep the paper receipt, or a photograph of it, until everyone has settled.
Bill links are capability links
A bill, set or group link is a long unguessable URL, and anyone holding it can open the bill it points to. There is no password on top of it. That is deliberate — it is what lets you share a split into a group chat without asking ten people to create accounts — but it means the link is the key. Treat it the way you would treat the receipt itself.
Owner links carry more: the ability to edit items, close the bill and see everyone's shares. Do not paste an owner link into a group. Bill links are marked as not indexable and are excluded from search engines, but that is not a security control; if you forward a link, you have shared the bill.
Acceptable use
Only upload receipts you are entitled to share. Do not use the service for unlawful purposes, to upload other people's personal data without their consent, to upload anything obscene, abusive or infringing, or to impersonate someone when claiming items on a bill.
Do not attempt to disrupt the service: no automated scraping or bulk creation of bills, no circumventing rate limits, no probing for tokens you were not given, and no attempt to access another person's bill, account or admin surface. The public feedback board is moderated, and messages may be removed or hidden without notice.
We may suspend or remove any bill, message or account that breaches these terms, or that we reasonably believe is being used to harm someone.
Your content
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You grant us permission to store and process it solely to provide the app — reading the receipt, computing shares, and showing the result to the people holding the link.
Bills and uploaded receipt images are deleted automatically 30 days after they are created, on a daily sweep. That deletion is not reversible and there is no recovery of a bill once it has gone. Anything you want to keep, keep elsewhere. The privacy policy sets out what is collected and how it is handled.
Accounts
Signing in is optional and only buys convenience: saved payment details, your past bills in one place, and reusable groups. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping access to the email address it is tied to. You can ask us to delete your account and its data through the feedback page.
Advertising
Public pages on this site may carry advertising, which is what pays for the service being free. Ads are supplied by a third-party network and their presence is not an endorsement of the advertiser. Ad and analytics cookies are covered in the privacy policy.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service. That includes, without limitation: inaccurate scans or calculations, amounts paid to the wrong recipient, payments that are never made, disputes between people splitting a bill, loss of data including bills removed by the 30-day sweep, and any period during which the service is unavailable.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid to use the service, which is nothing.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it. If a change matters, it will be visible here rather than announced.
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Questions, disputes and account deletion requests all go to the same place: the feedback page, which reaches a human.
